H.B. McDaniel Foundation Scholarship

Henry Bonner McDaniel, the father of school counseling and guidance in California, was Professor of Education at Stanford University. During that time he pioneered postgraduate training for California counseling and guidance personnel. This scholarship honors the legacy of educational excellence, leadership, and service of H.B. McDaniel, for whom the foundation is named.
Amount: $2,000
Criteria:

Completed first year in a master’s program in school counseling

Has maintained a 3.5 (or higher) GPA in the counseling program

Shows promise of outstanding leadership and service in the field

Currently working on a research/counseling project

Membership in a professional counseling association
What to Submit:

Resume and Transcript

Letter of Recommendation from Professor/Supervisor

Statement (1-2 pages) discussing the crucial issues for counseling in California; contributions they believe they can make in counseling; and description of their research/counseling project

A decision will be made by the scholarship board by April 20, 2010 and the winner will be notified by April 30, 2010. The scholarship will be presented at the annual McDaniel Foundation Banquet in June, at Stanford University, at which time the recipient should be present to accept the award and give a summary of their research project.
