The primary purpose of the H.B. McDANIEL FOUNDATION, INC. (McDANIEL FOUNDATION, INC.) is formed to honor and foster the work of Professor H.B. McDaniel in improving the field of guidance and counseling and thereby developing the youth of our present and future times.

In Memory - On behalf of the H.B. McDaniel Foundation Board, we extend our condolences to the family and friends in the passing of our notable colleague Dr. Jim Saum. Jim served on the Board for many years and became our first Individual Award winner in 1974. In 1994, he was inducted into the H.B. McDaniel Hall of Fame. Many of us knew him on a personal and professional basis and we will miss his soft spoken, kind and understanding demeanor. Over the years, he was the recipient of many awards and recognition for his contributions to the counseling profession and to the community. He started the school counseling program at California State University Sacramento and continued to serve there for 36 years. During that time, he was extremely active in promoting legislation that ultimately led to the establishment of professional standards for counselors. Jim has left a legacy that will be sorely missed and we sincerely appreciate the contributions that he made so graciously to improve the lives of those that he touched. Jim is survived by his wife, Susan, five children, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on March 26 at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Davis, Ca. at 2:00p.m. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Yolo Hospice.
